you know where you are? you're in the jungle baby! er, i mean high school...

this is a hilarious novel about those crazy first months of high school, when you're a scared freshman and don't know what the hell is going on. we get to watch two best friends navigate that tricky time together and see how their friendship suddenly falls apart when they find themselves chasing after different things. and once they end up on opposite sides, look out! the gloves totally come off...

i can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series - claudia gabel brings the fun, the embarassment, the humor and, most of all, brings the pain in this novel about everything that makes high school so exciting/mortifying/memorable! this is seriously hot stuff (and smart too!). i just wish i was as cool as this sawyer kid (you've gotta read the book to know what im talking about!).

anyway, pick up this book! i promise you that you're gonna be hooked...

The crucial part of high school, or of any social scene, is to fit in, to be noticed... in a good way. To not be the one that gets picked on but more like the one who everyone wants to be around. For best friends Nola and Marnie, their first day in high school as freshmen will ultimately result in whether they make it into the right crowd. But no worries, since they both promised each other that whoever gets in first will make sure the other does, too.

Unfortunately, there's only room for one of them.

Nola is the quiet one who definitely values her best friend status with Marnie and likes everything the way it is. Who needs change? Getting into the right crowd just doesn't matter, as long as she has her best friend right by her side. Being the klutz that she is, a little incident on the first day of school could make her so OUT.

Marnie, the outgoing one, has to live up to her older sister, Erin's, standards. Just saying her sister's name can easily get her noticed. But does she really want to just be known as Erin's little sister? Sure, if it can get her into the IN crowd.

Two friends, who thought they had each others' backs, will have their friendship tested, since high school can totally do that. Promises will be broken, friendships will be made, and, of course, teenage boys will make it all the more interesting.

The IN OR OUT series is the next guilty pleasure. Full of so much competition and a whole lot more drama, Claudia Gabel makes sure that we all know how dangerously scary high school can be. Nola is the one everyone will root for while Marnie is the one every girl wants to be. A quick and easy read that fans of THE CLIQUE series and MEAN GIRLS will definitely want to read.

Popular crowd vs. loser crowd

This book shows how hard high school is in the beginning. When you go to a new school, such as elemntary school to midde school or middle school to high school, sometimes you change. Well, what happens when you and the person who has been your best friend since, well forever, go completly different ways? That's what happens to Marnie and Nola. Marnie is a more confident, popular and really out there girl. On the other hand, Nola is a shy, quiet girl who never really says the right thing. The two friends have lots of desicions to make. Is their friendship really strong enough to keep them together? Nola is in the loser crowd. She didnt make a good impression on the "in" crowd and now they want nothing to do with her. However, Marnie is completly excepted in the to popular crowd. How can Marnie hang out with Nola and still be popular and hang out with her new friends? I liked this story because it is very realistic. All the situations were things that really happen everyday. They also used not only dialogue but they talked throught text messages and instant messages sometimes. I thought the story had a good plot and good characters. I disliked how it was sort of hard to follow. Sometmes i felt lost and didnt know where they were and who they were talking about. I ended up having to read some parts over again. Over all, i think it was a good book.

"One picture is worth a thousand screams."

I was addicted to these books when I was younger and it wasn't until I was majoring in education in college that I figured out why. They were interesting with bizarre plot twists that most 9-12 year olds don't think about and they were short (usually between 110-130 pages). I could read the whole thing in a day.
My parents also didn't have a lot of heartache with buying me a new book because these are relatively inexpensive (in the neighborhood of 3-5 bucks each).
R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books aren't scary, just kind of creepy. There aren't graphic descriptions of murder and mayhem. Just some ghosts, werewolves, or potions. The main character is alive in the end, and the final chapter resolves everything.
**Keep in mind, R.L. Stine has other books that aren't in the "Goosebumps" series that tend to be a little harsher when it comes to hauntings and plot. They are written more for the 12-14 age group and are longer (around 150-200 pages).

My book and author were Say Cheese and Die by R.L. Stine. I liked this book because of the mysterious camera. It was cool when the picture comes out and the car looks like it just got in a car crash. Each picture that the camera takes becomes true. Also why was this one camera found in this one room? To find out read this great book. I would recommend this book to a friend.

It's an amazing book. It's about 4 chracters Greg,Shari,Michael,and Bird who took a camera but bad things starts to happen to him after taking the pictures of people. If you wan't to know more, read this book! it's a great book for kids and I will recommend this to anyone.

My daughter did not get though this book once

This book has nothing to offer a little kid: the pictures are too pale and pastel to grab her attention, the text is short, yet uses big words... I was not able to read this book to my child once the whole way through - she gets bored and reaches for another book. Sure, the message is touching, but I do not think 2-year-olds can fully appreciate it, in any case, that alone is not enough to hold their attention.

My 2 1/2 year old LOVES this book!

This is a wonderful book about a little bear who wants to know about his Mama's love for him and the meaning of 'always'. My son is 2 1/2 and he absolutely loves for me to read this book to him at bedtime. He gets to choose his books at bedtime and he always chooses this one (along with "I Love You Through and Through" by Bernadette Rossetti Shustak and Caroline Jay Church) and saves it for last. I read it through once while he looks at the pictures, then I read it again as he settles in for bed. It has a quietness and rhythm to it that allows me to lull him to sleep. I repeat the multiple phrases in a slow, soft voice until he drifts off. I couldn't ask for a better bedtime book. Neither the artwork nor the words are too uninteresting for my son to like the book (as stated by another reviewer about her child). The book is wonderful. My son and I highly recommend it.

great gift for mammy and me (toddler)

My 6 year old still loves this book. We read it together but we'd had it for at least 3 years. I loved it so much that i purchased it for my niece's baby shower as well. Beautiful book!

About the Author
Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father's paintings of historic English battles which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father's office. Adam’s father said they were a Blade family heirloom.

Sadly, Adam does not have his own Ice Dragon or Ghost Panther. But he really wishes he did!

I liked Sepron the Sea Serpant because I really like monsters, especially this one. The series is about six monsters that are under an evil spell. There is a boy and a girl with a horse and a wolf on a quest to save the world from evil.

Magical, adventurous introduction for the young ones!

One of my students absolutely demanded that I read this book for read-aloud. Since many first grade boys are obsessed with fantasy, I went with it. While this is hardly high-class wonderful fantasy, I could not help but see the appeal of the story. I'm tempted to call this "beginner's fantasy", an easy-to-read (but still surprisingly well-written) story under 80 pages that introduces the concepts of quests and magical creatures and all those good staples. While the characters never quite grabbed me, Blade uses great descriptions and words beyond the ordinary (thus, perfect for a read-aloud). The story is organized well and has a nice idea. Again, not absolutely wonderful (I'm sorry, but I could not help but compare to Deltora) but even I was intrigued. I think this is a perfect series for young readers interested in fantasy.

The same complicated supporting cast is featured in this book, including a father-daughter team; a naturalist from the refuge; and photojournalist Greste, whose photos here are more varied, abundant, and consistent in quality than before. Along with assuring children that the bond between Owen and Mzee is "stronger than ever," the authors chronicle the animals' system of communication, involving nudges, nips, and even a special kind of call. Libraries that own the first title will certainly want to add this title; those that don't may wish to purchase just this one, which gives the necessary context and duplicates some elements from the earlier book, while extending the information--through references to naturalists' concerns about Owen's need to interact with other hippos, and about Mzee's safety as his companion grows to his 7,000-pound size--in a way that moves beyond the pat, heartwarming aspects of the incident to ask fascinating questions about animal behavior. Those who were captivated byOwen & Mzee: The True Story of a Remarkable Friendship -about the bond between a baby hippo orphaned by the 2004 tsunami and an adult tortoise living in the same Kenyan sanctuary-will find this follow-up equally mesmerizing. Again, Greste's crisp color photographs reveal these inseparable animal companions at remarkably close range. A standout sequence of nine frames allows readers to observe one of the unique ways the pair communicates: the now two-year-old Owen, signaling Mzee to move to the left, nudges the 130-year-old turtle's left rear foot. The two also communicate in their own "language," a deep rumbling sound that is not intuitive to either species. The authors (a youngster, her father and the manager of the Kenyan park) do raise questions about how the friendship will progress, as Owen grows to his adult size of 7,000 pounds, and his caretakers worry that he could unintentionally harm Mzee. Nonetheless, readers of all ages will likely concur with the authors' observation: "No matter how things turn out, the story of their friendship will always remind the world that when you need a friend, one will be there for you." imprinted on the more-than-a-century-old Aldabra tortoise in a nature preserve in Kenya. Owen and
Mzee's story continues, with unexpected communication and devotion between the animals and the
unexpected difficulties (Owen acts much more like a tortoise than a hippo). The photographs continue
to be quite wonderful, and it is hard not to agree with the astonishment in the text: These animals
communicate, play, eat and live together, though they are utterly dissimilar in every way. Their story
is recapitulated in this volume, so even if they don't own the first, eager young readers can catch right

All ages will find it difficult to pass up.

I heard of this story and sought out the first book for my elementary school daughter. I ended up buying it more for me. It was very good. I was cautiously excited about another more detailed book. I found it even better than the first.
The photography is beautiful on it's own. The story is well written and interesting for all ages. The information shared is just what we all want to know: How do two such different animals enjoy each other so much? Is it possible for them to truly love each other? How do they know?
At the end of the book is information about Kenya, interesting and pertinent information about hippos and tortoises and their habitats, the park in which they live and the information about the Tsunami which brought them together. This information would make a great unit study start and would make a viable report.
If read to a preschooler, it would be fantastic, if read by an adult, it's just as enjoyable as it is taken in at a deeper level. My friends walk past the coffee table, pick it up and can't put it down. I'll keep it in mind as a gift for those whom I find difficult to buy gifts.
This is an heirloom for us. I can't imagine a better account of this remarkable story.

This is a great book with amazing photos. Truly a wonderful story of very unusual friends. I sent both of the O & M books to my 8 yr old granddaughters . . . but only after I had read them myself!!

great series for young readers

This is a great series for young kids. My 5 year old loves dogs and this is his favorite series. It teaches about puppy/dog care, different types of dogs, dogs who have jobs,and the responsibility and maturity it takes to have a pet. I especially like the first few books where the Petersons learn to accept the fact that they can't have a puppy and why they are not ready for one yet.

Short but Sweet

Sometimes you just need a break from intense and violent books. I got this book when I was younger and first learning how to read. Just now I was searching through my library looking for something to read when I came across it. I started reading and soon my mind was filled with adorable puppies. I felt like the book left out some details and the characters weren't very developed, besides from being bossy, but otherwise it was a great story. The second you're introduced to Flash you immediately fall in love. What's not to like about puppies! I'm eleven now and the book took me about 30 minutes to,read the book, but I enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too.

My 6 year-old reads 2 of the Puppy Place books a week. I love that, although she is an advanced reader, these books are still very sweet and innocent. Ms. Miles doesn't use words like "stupid" or "moron" like you find in so many other books at this level.
